Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Edward Crawley, Skoltech’s President and Mikhail G. Myagkov, VP for Academic Affairs and International relations, met with Sergey Ivanets,the rector of FEFU (Far Eastern Federal University), in Vladivostok. At the top of the agenda was a discussion of the “5-100″ framework, the Russian government’s plan to have five Russian universities included in the list of the world’s best one hundred educational institutions by 2020.

They discussed collaboration on numerous vectors including development of energy grid networks in the region, student exchange and online education courses. Besides exchanging smiles, handshakes and thoughts about promoting innovation in education, the two sides agreed to further develop a road map for cooperation.  Agreements between the universities were signed in June this year .

“Far Eastern Federal University is one of Skoltech’s most valuable partners. We are ready to actively develop joint innovative research and educational initiatives. For decades now FEFU has been creating a magnificent intellectual and research base, and is now one of the most advanced universities in Russia”, said Miagkov.

On a more detailed level, the discussion touched upon issues such as the development of FEFU’s part in the program of the CDIO  (Conceive — Design — Implement — Operate) Academy ,which is  developed by Skoltech and implemented in conjunction with TPU (Tomsk Polytechnic University); a student exchange program, whereby the two institutions will launch joint courses on innovation and entrepreneurship, project-based learning; providing access to FEFU students to distance learning courses through Skoltech’s online platforms.
