Collaboration: Skoltech and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
On October 26, 2011, the newly created Skoltech signed a trilateral agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Skolkovo Foundation to launch the first three years of a collaboration to build capacity in education, research, and entrepreneurship programs at Skoltech.
During the first three years of the partnership, MIT will act as an advisor on programs, structure, and curriculum, while researchers at both Skoltech and MIT will benefit from new opportunities for intellectual exchange, network building, and shared research. At MIT, the Skoltech/MIT Initiative office serves as a dedicated portal connecting the two communities.
Beyond the initial three-year agreement, leaders envision that MIT and Skoltech will maintain a core strategic partnership dedicated to further building and enhancing capacity at Skoltech, and to advancing Russian participation in the global innovation community.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a leading educational and research institute in Cambridge, USA, continually ranked as one of the top 10 universities in the world. In its efforts to advance knowledge throughout the world, MIT has developed a strong record in fostering large-scale innovation-oriented research communities and institutions. Similar collaborations in India, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and elsewhere provide models for establishing the conditions and system necessary to ensure the rapid growth of Skoltech. MIT also possesses a historical connection to Russia as it was partially modeled on the “Russian School” of engineering education observed at the Moscow State Technical University, founded 31 years before MIT in 1830
