Abstract

The DLR (German Aerospace Center) Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics has been developing robotic technologies for applications on ground, in space and on air. In the talk, some of the main achievements of the institute as well as the future research directions will be presented. The advanced manipulation and so called flying robots would be presented in more detail. It will be shown that robotic technologies developed for terrestrial and space systems can be exploited for flying platforms. In parallel to enhancement of traditional applications focused on aerial sensor data acquisition (photo, film, infrared and multispectral cameras) robotics technologies open new applications where the flying robots have to interact with the environment physically, e.g. installation of sensor nodes, taking samples of soil or water in inaccessible areas and even assembly of structures or perform maintenance of pipelines and power lines.

Biography

Konstantin Kondak, received his diploma in Computer Engineering, his doctoral and postdoctoral degrees from the TU Berlin in 1999, 2001 and 2007 respectively. From 06.2008 to 10.2009, he holds the position of the representative full professor at the Real-Time Systems and Robotics Group at the TU Berlin. Since 07.2008, he was the head of the laboratory for exoskeleton robots and since 06.2006 the head of the laboratory for autonomous flying robots. Since 10.2009 he is the head of key research area “flying robots” at DLR’s institute of Robotics and Mechatronics. His resent research interest is focused on simulation and control of multibody systems as well as on description and verification of complex technical systems and their missions.
