Skoltech and TUSUR open NTI IoT Center in Tomsk

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) and the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radio-electronics (TUSUR) opened a regional National Technology Initiative (NTI) Internet of Things (IoT) Center in Tomsk.

The new Center has been established at TUSUR, with the Tomsk State University (TSU) acting as a partner.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor for Science and Education of the Tomsk Region L.M. Ogorodova, TUSUR Rector Alexander Shelupanov, and Head of Skoltech’s Wireless Technologies and Internet of Things Center Dmitry Lakontsev.

Earlier this month, Skoltech announced the launch of its new WT and IoT center within the framework of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) – Russia’s program for the creation of fundamentally new markets and conditions for the global technological leadership of Russia. IoT refers to the interconnectedness of physical devices – from computers and mobile phones to home appliances and vehicles – via the internet. Amid a proliferation of new devices and means of connectedness, this field is growing rapidly.

“We can’t reach all of the regions of Russia from Moscow,” said Skoltech Professor Dmitry Lakontsev, who is spearheading the initiative. “Our goal is to reach as many Russians as possible, particularly by organizing events and courses for people in Russia’s many regions.”

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) is a private graduate research university situated on the outskirts of the Russian capital. Established in 2011 in collaboration with MIT, Skoltech cultivates a new generation of researchers and entrepreneurs, promotes advanced scientific knowledge and fosters innovative technology to address critical issues facing Russia and the world. Skoltech applies the best Russian and international research and educational practices, with particular emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. Skoltech’s model leverages on the integration of basic and applied research and education. The Institute’s close link with the industrial and business ecosystem fosters frontier research and generates a flow of innovative solutions for the benefit of the Russian economy.
