Skoltech IEEE Student Branch presents its first online webinar, free and open to all.
Technology development allows human evolution: better quality of life, growth in survival possibilities, pervasive information, and other positive achievements. However, there are also new problems and questions in a more competitive and speed life, with many ethical and sustainable concerns demanding modern humans in a global context. This talk shows how big problems require smart and human solutions, from the advanced computing point of view, developing a new human civilization. Humankind is facing life challenges such as COVID-19 pandemic situation, the global climate exchange, and social disruption. These challenges measure not only the degree of knowledge in science, technology, and the exploitation of their benefits, but also how the scientists, engineers, and people can collaborate (wherever they are). Furthermore, it reflects how it is possible to works together and how it is possible to propose answers quickly, thinking in humanity and sustainable life.
CARLOS J. BARRIOS H. (ACM and IEEE / Computer Society Senior Member) is a doctor in computer science from the University of Côte d’Azur in Sophia Antipolis, France (2009). Before, he followed master research in applied mathematics, systems, and informatics in the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Informatics (IMAG) of the University of Grenoble-Alpes at Grenoble, the same in France (2004-2005). His undergraduate education was in System Engineering of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in Bucaramanga, Colombia (2002). Today, he is the general chair of the Advanced Computing System for Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC). Currently, he is an associate professor at Informatics and Systems Engineering School at UIS and director of the High Performance and Scientific Computing Center (SC3UIS) of the same university. Prof. Barrios scientific work is around advanced computing concerns (High-Performance Computing (HPC), Performance Evaluation of Computing Systems, Scalable (and large scale) Architectures, Scientific Computing, HPC and Artificial Intelligence Convergence, Real Quantum Computing, etc.) and the use of technology and computer science for human wellness. He is part of different international projects, member of worldwide collaborations (Americas HPC Collaboration, EuroAmericas HPC Collaboration, Advanced Technology, and Computing French-Colombian Collaboration), the program committee of a lot of international workshops and conferences (as the Latin American Conference on HPC, CARLA), founder of the Supercomputing and Distributed System International Camping Schoool (SC-CAMP), member of the UNESCO CS-DC Council and Academic instructor of the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute.
