Registration for Skolkovo Junior Challenge 2021 – an international Olympiad for 7th to 10th graders − is open until March 15, 2021. About 500 teams from Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus have already registered.
This is the third Olympiad which, this year, is held fully online, with focus on natural science and technology. Student teams will compete in 4 tracks: Energy, Biomedicine, Industrial Technology, and IT. The IT track has been added this year. Knowledge of English is required.
The assignments for all the three rounds in all the four tracks have been developed by scientists from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech).
All the assignments are aligned with the goals on the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030:
- Affordable and Clean Energy,
- Zero Hunger,
- Responsible Consumption and Production,
- Quality Education.
Depending on the track focus, the participants will be asked to create a local electrification plan using alternative energy sources, develop a solution for the restoration and waste-free use of natural resources, design a set of engineering processes for the aerospace industry or develop a software tool facilitating preparations for e-sports competitions.
The Olympiad will include two online selection rounds culminating in the finals which will be held in the online hackathon format from May 19 to 21, 2021. The winning teams and individuals will receive prizes from the Olympiad partners, and four individual winners will be offered an opportunity to enter the Skolkovo International Gymnasium.
Participation in the Olympiad is free. For more details about the registration and assignments see https://gymnasium.sk.ru/city/gymnasium/challenge/.
