Ten years ago, Skoltech was a dream project, the one and only international science and technology university to be built in Russia. The most talented students were given the best professors recognized worldwide, the best scientists were given unique facilities. This enterprise gathered the best-qualified specialists to build the best environment.
 
The past decade has definitely been a successful endeavor. Looking back on our growth, it feels as if these 10 years have proceeded with tremendous momentum spurred on by the support of inspired students, academic and professional staff.
 
Today we can be rightfully proud of our alumni that are in charge of big companies, of our scientists that are published in top scientific journals, our R&D projects, our industrial partners, our colleagues that have joined strategically important entities of the country. Skoltech has grown into a modern university that enjoys partnerships with many top-tier companies and organizations both in Russia and abroad. Skoltech is playing a key role as an act and think tank in Russia’s national strategy for science and technology.
 
It has gone from an intake of just over 50 students in its first year to the more than 1,100-strong student cohort of today, becoming an international university with master’s and PhD programs, boasting students from almost 50 countries. It has gone from being referred to as a “blue building on Nobel street” to today when it possesses a modern campus that embodies the essence of both Russian and Western cultures. From an initial academic staff of just several dozen — today it has close to 150 staff hailing from dozens of countries around the world.
 
It hasn’t always been easy to instill a new paradigm toward developing an accelerated nontraditional technological education embracing the best global practices, but WE believe this is where the future lies. By setting the example of a new way, we hope to create a path to what other universities in Russia can emulate.
 
There has always been a large gap between research results and practical applications in Russia. Over the past five years, we’ve been striving to find ways to bridge and close this gap. Our motto is: excellent research today, economic impact tomorrow. We have created one of the best research environments to attract leaders in their fields. This commitment to research has resulted in Skoltech being listed among Nature Index’s top 100 young universities since 2019. Today Skoltech researchers are making a real-world impact in science and technology areas as diverse as wireless tech, energy storage materials, photonics, and others. Suffice it to mention that such industrial companies as Huawei, Samsung, Sberbank, Gazprom Neft need and seek out our expertise. We are valuable, and will continue to be prosperous and efficacious.
 
But in the long rivers of history and the grand picture of constant change, 10 years is just flash in the passage of time. Already Skoltech is recognized internationally for its accelerated buildup that now is becoming a driver of economic diversity and technology diversification across several emerging spheres. Collectively, we continue our charge for the rapid evolution of Skoltech as a globally leading research, education and innovation university.
