Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. The faculty is comprised of current researchers with international accreditation and achievements.

Two conferences were held in Skoltech by the Laboratory of Omics Technologies and Big Data last week

On Nov. 22, the International Conference on Multi-omics Technologies for Precision Medicine was held in a hybrid format. Around 40 people took part in the conference in person on the first day, and the second day was carried online with speakers from all over the world giving talks for almost 70 attendees from 21 countries. The conference was organized by the Laboratory of Omics Technologies and Big Data for Personalized Medicine and Health (Founded and supported by the Megagrant of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation).

During the conference that was devoted to demonstrating the power of multi-omics for precision medicine, the experts were discussing proteomic QR-code, Omix-based technologies in oncology, the necessity of multi-omics approaches to realize the promise of precision medicine, clinical proteomics challenges in personalized medicine, early prediction of COVID-19 patient survival, multi-layer proteomic data sets and their correlation with phenotypes and much more.

The Conference started with the welcoming speeches of the Ambassador of Canada to Russia Alison LeClaire, Aleksander P. Kuleshov, President of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Mikhail Gelfand, Vice President for Biomedical Research at Skoltech, Clement Fortin, Associate Provost, Dean of Education at Skoltech. Among other guests were Brain Ebel, Senior Trade Commissioner, Embassy of Canada to Russia, Alexander Gabibov, Director, Head of Biocatalysis Laboratory, Shemyakin-Ovchinnikov Institute of bioorganic chemistry.

“Going to Skoltech is an always too brief visit to a world of creativity, innovation, and dedication to learning. Congratulations to Christoph Borchers and the team that brought experts from Canada and worldwide to share the latest in an area of life sciences – multi-omics – that is so critical to human health. Your commitment to the advancement of science and learning through international collaboration with institutions in Canada and around the globe continues to inspire,” shared Alison LeClaire, Canadian Ambassador to Russia.

On Nov. 24-25, Skoltech hosted the 10th Symposium on Structural Proteomics online. Speakers from the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Austria, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Canada, the UK were invited to give a talk, overall 180 people from 15 countries took part in the event. Three professors from Skoltech also presented their scientific achievements.

This event was dedicated to presenting the latest technology development and applications of structural proteomics. The program of the Symposium covered such topics as cross-linking, HDX, covalent modification, limited proteolysis, ion mobility native MS, affinity labeling, protein structure modeling, AlphaFold.

This year’s Symposium on Structural Proteomics revives the series of annual symposiums in this field. It was started by Christoph H. Borchers and Evgeniy Petrotchenko 11 years ago in Banff, AB, Canada, with a handful of participants, but in the previous Symposium in 2019 (in 2020, it was canceled due to pandemic) in Goettingen, Germany, around three hundred people took part in it. This year a lot of speakers and participants were glad to take part in the Symposium again and discuss scientific questions with the colleagues.
