The triple helix model: government, business and academia

On September 11-13, the XII Triple Helix International Conference, titled “The Triple Helix and Innovation-based Economic Growth: New Frontiers and Solutions”, will be hosted in Tomsk, Russia, in partnership with Skoltech.

This conference is designed to analyze the interaction between universities/research institutions, government and industry, as well as its impact on the economic development of specific regions. The event will gather renowned experts from around the world to address the key question of the global agenda – the search for new sources of economic growth.
 The program will feature high quality academic presentations, parallel open sessions, panel discussions, and theme-based workshops.

Skoltech leadership will participate in the conference: the university’s President Edward Crawley slated to deliver an address at the plenary session “The Triple Helix and innovation-based economic growth:  new frontiers and solutions”, and participate in a panel discussion on “University economic impact”.

Another key-note speaker  Ilia Dubinsky, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Skoltech, who will discuss the university’s economic impact with the conference participants at a plenary session. Dubinsky will chair a paper presentation session on Technology Transfer, intended to analyze and suggest ways of teaching innovation more efficiently.

Mikhail Myagkov, Skoltech Vice-President for Academic Affairs and International Relations, will focus on project-based approach in educational programs, including its implementation at Skoltech during the panel «University-business collaboration: cooperative education».

Professor Kelvin Willougby will discuss issues of intellectual property creation and protection during the workshop “Open Innovation: Trends, Agenda, Impact”.

Skoltech representatives will also present a number of academic papers. The themes include:

  • “How a proof of concept model works in Russia: Experience from the first round of the Skoltech Innovation Program” (Dmitry Pebalk);
  • “The Specifics of Technology Transfer in Russia” (Sergey Ulyakhin);
  • “Spin-off as indicator of university-industry collaboration” (Konstantin Grasmik);
  • “Changes to IP Legislation in Russia and The Impact on Commercialization of University Research” (Anna Kochenkova);
  • “Business incubation in Russia: challenges and key success factors” (Anna Kochenkova).
