Researchers of the Skoltech AI Center receive Government of Russia Letters of Appreciation for contributions to AI in science
February 20, 2026

A ceremony to present state awards and Government Letters of Appreciation was held at the House of the Government of the Russian Federation, recognizing achievements for 2025 in the areas overseen by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. Letters of appreciation from the Government of the Russian Federation were awarded to members of the Skoltech Artificial Intelligence Center: Professor Evgeny Burnaev, Vice President for AI Development and Director of the Skoltech AI Center; Professor Ivan Oseledets, who heads the Center’s Laboratory of Computational Intelligence; Professor Alexander Panchenko, Head of the Natural Language Processing Laboratory; and Associate Professor Alexander Korotin, Head of the Generative AI Research Group. The letters of appreciation recognize the researchers’ contribution to the development of artificial intelligence in Russian science.

The Skoltech AI Center is a leader among Russia’s higher-education institutions by publication output at top-tier international AI venues, operating at a scale comparable to the national level. Commenting on the awards, Skoltech Vice President for AI Development Evgeny Burnaev said: “It is a great honor for our Center’s team to receive such high recognition of our research work. Thank you for this trust, and for the fact that the development of artificial intelligence is now among the country’s priorities—with attention to both outcomes and quality. At the same time, the number of publications is not an end in itself for us: it is only an external indicator that behind this work there is a strong research school, enabling solutions that perform reliably in real-world conditions and in industry. This is how we understand engineering AI: as a discipline where quality is proven in practice. This recognition is also a major responsibility—to keep the bar high, develop people, and translate new ideas into technologies that deliver tangible benefits for the economy and society.”
