Skoltech becomes the leader among Russian universities in contribution to A* publications in artificial intelligence

Skoltech researchers account for around 20% of Russia’s contribution to A* publications in artificial intelligence and machine learning from 2020 to 2025. In terms of contribution to AI publications, the Institute outperforms the nearest Russian university by more than 27%.

Skoltech has become the leader among Russian universities in contribution to A* publications in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The results are based on the study by the HSE University Scientometrics Center, “BRICS and AI: The Scale of Countries, Organizations, and Partnerships within Leading AI Conferences”, which covers the period from 2020 to 2025 and includes an analysis of publications at ten international A*-level conferences according to the ICORE 2026 ranking. The sample includes venues covering key areas of computer science, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. The analysis is based on Scopus data.

From 2020 to 2026, Skoltech researchers produced more than 300 A*-level publications at leading international conferences in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The Institute’s researchers have presented their work at key venues, including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, and other high-level conferences.

The Skoltech Artificial Intelligence Center conducts research in machine learning, generative models, computer vision, data analysis, mathematical methods of AI, and engineering artificial intelligence. The Center’s researchers work on developing new artificial intelligence methods and applying them to scientific and technological challenges — from advancing fundamental approaches to creating solutions for industrial and engineering applications.
