The Center was established in 2021 to consolidate and significantly enhance Skoltech’s world-class expertise in wireless and IoT technologies. The Center has become a recognized leader in research and end-to-end wireless technologies in Russia. Its developments have laid the groundwork for ensuring the country’s technological sovereignty in wireless communication and IoT.

The Center conducts cutting-edge research in 5G/6G systems, information theory, signal processing, edge computing, machine learning for communications, IoT architectures, and emerging communication paradigms; and partners with industry, government, and startups to translate research into real-world impact. The Center's main goal for 2025-2030 is to develop critical technologies for 5GA communication networks and network infrastructure components. These include base station software, architectural modules for base stations, AI-based network management systems and digital twins. Additionally, an even more important objective is to prepare for 6G standardization, build a portfolio of intellectual property, and develop national standards for the Internet of Things.

An essential part of the Center’s mission is training new telecommunications specialists. The Center launched the master’s program “Next Generation Communication Technologies.” Today, it is the leading telecommunications education program in Russia and one of the top programs globally. Its graduates work at leading telecommunications companies and universities around the world.
