Skoltech in Zaryadye: “Embraced by the Sun”

How does the Sun affect our planet and its inhabitants? Although located as far as 150,000,000 kilometers from the Earth, the Sun has a direct impact on our daily lives, with solar disturbances causing severe geomagnetic storms and auroras that disable electronic devices and jeopardize the lives of astronauts.

Skoltech Assistant Professor, Tatiana Podladchikova, has dedicated her scientific career to exploring the Sun, a G2V-type star, or the “yellow dwarf”, which is indeed a tiny star on the cosmic scale. In her lecture, Podladchikova will unveil many hidden surprises that the Sun has in store and the impact that space weather can have on our plans on Earth.

Tatiana Podladchikova is a Candidate of Technical Sciences and winner of the International Alexander Chizhevsky Medal for Space Weather and Space Climate. In the past, she worked at the RAS Space Research Institute, the Royal Observatory of Belgium, and the Marseille Astrophysics Laboratory. As an Assistant Professor at the Skoltech Space Center, Podladchikova conducts research in the field of solar-terrestrial physics, develops new space weather services as well as interdisciplinary applications.
