Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. The faculty is comprised of current researchers with international accreditation and achievements.

About our students

Skoltech students are graduates of leading Russian universities such as MIPT, BMSTU, Moscow State University, Federal Universities and others.

Our students take two-year Master programs, which also include training at leading international universities – MIT, Imperial College London, the University of Hong Kong and others. The MSc programs 2019 are Advanced Manufacturing and Materials, Data Science, Energy Systems, Information Science and Technology, Life Sciences, Mathematical and Theoretical Physics, Materials Science, Photonics and Quantum Materials, Space and Engineering Systems, and Petroleum Engineering. Besides the disciplinary and theoretical frameworks within each program, students are offered a special training course for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, where they learn how to implement technological ideas and choose a relevant business model for a successful market launch. It is important to note that all educational courses at Skoltech are conducted in English. That is why Skoltech students have no language barrier in collaborating with the international research and academic community.

Industrial Immersion

Skoltech is an internationally competitive institute whose goal is to accelerate scientific and technological capital into innovation impact. This is achieved by educating graduate students to be leaders in translating knowledge from science to innovation and by establishing a community among Russian and international talent and industry.

It is crucial that students have real hands-on work experience in an industrial sector and develop the knowledge and skills for making an impact through engineering and innovation. All Master’s students are required to participate in a professional project (12 ECTS), also called an industrial immersion project, during their two-year program. Students normally work on professional projects during the summer term of the first year of study.

Industrial immersions implies working in a company/organization, not in a laboratory in an educational institution. Students not only apply and expand their technical knowledge and skills and gain expertise, but also learn about the business context of the sector and particular enterprise: its culture, stakeholders, strategy and its operations and technical products and systems of the company.

Industrial Immersion – key features:

Conceptually, the Skoltech student group is like a small engineering consulting company within an organization. 3-10 students attend each industrial immersion project as a team;
Duration – 8 weeks (full-time), 12 ECTS; graded as Pass/Fail. Credits awarded are sector credits in the degree requirements.
Work is highly organized and planned, objectives are clearly defined;
Although the daily work of the students is primarily supervised by a company representative, there is also the critical involvement of a Skoltech faculty member or researcher. He/she is responsible for setting the technical task with the company, being a resource for students and assisting in the monitoring of students’ work.
Projects focus on short-term development, manufacturing or operations challenges rather than long-term research problems;
Students take the lead to define the tasks in detail and organize their work in collaboration with the company supervisor; projects focus on short-term development, manufacturing or operations challenges rather than long-term research problems;
Results stay inside the host company;
Designed for high output and impact in parallel with a great learning experience.

Descriptions of proposed Industrial Immersion projects are made available by Education Office in advance. Students are selected on a competitive basis with company involvement.
