The 4th Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry visited Skoltech yesterday evening, meeting with representatives from the Skoltech Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI). He toured the new Eastern Ring campus and visited the Center for Design, Manufacturing and Materials.
Francis Gurry is a major figure in the field of intellectual property, with a career extending back to the mid-80s, having joined the World Intellectual Property Organization in 1985. He has held various positions in the Secretariat of the WIPO, including Legal Counsel, Assistant Director General, and Deputy Director General.
In 2007, he co-wrote a book titled, “International Intellectual Property in an Integrated World Economy.”
Intellectual property protects new technologies entering the market, and in the context of Skoltech’s work, Mr Gurry’s visit highlights the importance of using this tool to as a safeguard.
