June 11, 2013 — During the 9th International CDIO Conference in Cambridge, USA, Skoltech President Edward Crawley and Kristina Edström, Director for Educational Development presented their paper on the process of engaging stakeholders and formulating the learning outcomes for Skoltech’s education.

The presentation attracted a large audience with people lining the walls to learn about Skoltech and its educational model. In the evening Skoltech hosted a reception to further educate this audience of international innovative educators about the rapidly developing Institute.

Crawley is the original founder of the CDIO Initiative‎ for engineering education reform, and Edström has worked with developing CDIO and implementing it at KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) for more than a decade before joining Skoltech. The CDIO Initiative has grown steadily since it was founded by MIT and three Swedish universities in 2000.

About 350 participants from all over the world gathered at the conference to discuss Engineering Leadership in Innovation and Design. Russian participants included CDIO Collaborators Tomsk Polytechnic University, Astrakhan State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and Skoltech.

Other Russian universities currently applying to join the CDIO movement were also in attendance: Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys and Ural Federal University.

Skoltech has been very active promoting the CDIO Principles within Russia. On May 27, the Institute and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, a committee under the President of the Russian Federation, signed an agreement to work together in improving Russian engineering education through the CDIO Principles.
