Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. What are the roles of state, business and higher education in transforming educational standards? What tools and mechanisms will help involve young people into these programs? What is the proper balance between customized educational programs and the classic university education?

October 31, 5:45 pm-7:00 pm, Hall E – Panel discussion “Translational Research and Technology Commercialization at Universities’ ” moderated by Ilia Dubinsky, Director, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Skoltech Institute of Science and Technology. Discussion will feature Jose Estabil, Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, MIT Skoltech Initiative and MIT Portugal Program; Nikolai Toivonen, Vice Rector for Strategic Development, University ITMO (St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics); Alexei Nikolaev, Program Director, Higher Education and Technology Entrepreneurship, Intel Russia; Raed Hashaikeh, Associate Professor, Materials Science and Engineering, Masdar Institute; and Evgeny Evdokimov, Managing Director, Infrastructure Division, Rusnano.
Panelists will discuss the main approaches, procedures, and most common challenges in the commercialization of academic research, as well as provide an overview of translational research projects, corporate collaborations, start-up company formation and the world’s best university licensing practices.

October 31, 4:45 pm, Press Centre, as part of the initiative to create the International Association of the Centres for the Integration of Technologies, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Skoltech Institute of Science and Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics.
The mission of the Association is to support and develop centres for integration and commercialization of technologies, created at universities and research institutions. November, 2nd, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, During the Open Innovation Forum Youth Program, Skoltech Institute of Science and Technology students Irina Zhelavskaya, Vyacheslav Sabirov, Anastasia Uryasheva and Rustem Feyzhanov finalists in the international competition “100 Innovators Project”, will present their projects to leading hi-tech investors and industry experts at the Skoltech Hypercube. This session was well attended and an overwhelming success in the inaugural 2012 Open Innovations Forum.

Throughout the Forum, Skoltech Institute of Science and Technolgy will be present at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre Booth: Information will be provided about this new cutting-edge Institute, the Master’s programs offered, application process and how to get involved. Current Skoltech student projects will be featured, including the award-winning innovative bicycle navigation tool.

The 2013 Open Innovations Forum is the second annual and is organized by leading Russian development institutions and the Moscow City Government, with support of the Russian Federation. More than 5000 Russian and International guests representing industry, academia, venture capital, key economic agencies and government attended. More than 20 agreements were signed between Russian and Multinational companies. Additionally, in 2012, Skoltech signed collaboration agreements in education, science and technology development with giants – Uralvagonzavod, Oboronprom and Intel Corp. These agreements imply joint development of new materials and constructions, and technologies in biomed, info-comm and energy, as well as carbon extraction and conversion.
