Colloquium: “Structural material systems: challenges and evolutions in design, manufacturing and system integration”

Guest speaker: Prof. Paolo Gaudenzi, University of Rome “La Sapienza”Paolo Gaudenzi

When: November 5, 16:00
Where: Skolovo Innovation Center, Technopark, Bld. 3, room 407

Abstract

The design of structural components, once considered only under the domain of mechanical disciplines, has evolved towards multi-physics behavior and multi-scale analysis. Manufacturing processes like 3D printing or advanced composite construction have made and will make possible shapes and performances once not conceivable. The “mechanical” component is now more than ever embedded and integrated in complex systems, acquiring itself the nature of system. The evolution of concurrent design and IoT made the engineering disciplines of mechanics, electronics and informatics become a single area of competences. In a scenario of engineering systems facing the challenges of enhanced performances and reduced costs, the colloquium aims at giving some stimulus to a debate on how to better prepare the ground today for the evolution of technologies and of the engineering systems that will meet the needs of the product and services of future society.
