In line with the Moscow Declaration and Action Plan adopted at the III BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Meeting on the 28th of October 2015, the new initiative on cooperation on Photonics was included with India and Russia as coordinating countries.
As part of the Action Plan in Photonics, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology is proud to host the first BRICS Conference on Photonics on May 30 – 31, 2016. The aim of the conference is to identify the priority areas in the field of photonics which are of common interest to the BRICS member countries, as well as coordination of actions aligned with the existing competences, financial, scientific and technological resources of the participants.
Another important task of the conference is to promote the establishment of partnerships between academic institutions, industries other structures of the BRICS member countries, interested in implementing joint industrially oriented projects.

- Integrated optics
- Optical detectors and sensors
- Optical navigation systems
- Nanophotonics
- Biophotonics
It is expected that the conference will be attended by about 80 people – representatives of academic institutions, industry and coordinating organizations of BRICS participating countries: Russia, Brazil, India and China. On the Russian side the representatives of Skolkovo Foundation, JSC Russian Space Systems, T-8, T-Platforms, University ITMO, and other partners will take part in the conference.
The conference will be held in Skoltech, close to Moscow and with available public transportation to its center. In addition to the plenary sessions, parallel sessions will also be organized. More detailed information and updates will be provided on the conference web site.
