Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Skoltech and NMRC PM agree to collaborate on CoBrain project

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) and the National Medical Research Center for Preventive Medicine (NMRC PM) of the Russian Health Ministry will join efforts to integrate NMRC PM in the depersonalized data system within the framework of the CoBrain-Analytics project.

A bilateral memorandum to this effect was signed in Moscow by President of Skoltech and Full Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Kuleshov and Director of NMRC PM, Lead Physician of the Health Ministry and Associate Member of RAS Oksana Drapkina.

NMRC PM addresses a host of pressing issues facing the Russian healthcare system: preserving and improving health throughout the country, reducing morbidity and mortality rates due to major chronic non-infectious diseases, playing a proactive role in large-scale Russian and international studies into chronic non-communicable diseases and ways of their prevention, and collaborating with the professional communities in other Russian regions. On top of that, the Center is developing advanced healthcare services, such as personalized healthcare and telehealth. 

Bilateral cooperation will facilitate the fast and efficient expansion of the CoBrain-Analytics database, while providing NRMC PM with access to the state-of-the-art centralized medical data storage and allowing its doctors and researchers to browse and analyze an extensive repository of clinical and paraclinical data in real time.

In 2016, Skoltech started working on the NeuroNet Big Data Platform project, which makes up part of the National Technology Initiative and is now widely known among the professional community as the CoBrain-Analytics system.

The project purports to create a biomedical platform for collecting, storing, analyzing and processing medical data on the human brain, encompassing different brain conditions and data modalities. The project is distinct from other neurodata platforms in that it relies on the multimodal approach that enables combining different types of data on the same research subject (patient) using cutting-edge AI-based methods.

Entities already linked up to CoBrain-Analytics include top Russian medical centers of excellence, such as the Research Center of Neurology, N.N. Burdenko Center for Neurosurgery, Institute of Physiology and Fundamental Medicine and RAS Research Centre of Medical Genetics, and several major commercial medical companies.

The platform’s first outputs have spurred interest among medical centers in Munich, Heidelberg (Germany), Los Angeles (USA), and Shanghai (China). Contract negotiations are already underway.
