Skoltech has signed two agreements to strengthen Russian-Thailand education and science relationships, with a focus on areas such as materials science, energy systems and information science – and an emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship.
The agreements were inked with VISTEC (the Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology) and NSTDA (the National Science and Technology Development Agency) during a five-day Skoltech team visit this month to Thailand.
“Skoltech shares a common vision with Thailand of providing extraordinary educational and motivational opportunities for future generations of researchers, entrepreneurs and innovators,” said Skoltech President Dr. Alexander Kuleshov, who signed the VISTEC and NSTDA agreements. “Skoltech is ready to serve as an anchor point for a highly productive Russian-Thai collaborative relationship in education, science and technology.”
VISTEC is a higher-education research institute dedicated to science and technology, with the goals of fostering exceptional scientists and building cutting-edge knowledge and innovation for Thailand. Its state-of-the-art facilities include fully-equipped laboratories in science and technology, high-performance computing facilities, a modern learning center and library, along with information and communications technology with access to scientific databases to fulfill the needs of industry and advanced research.
NSTDA’s mission is to strengthen research, development, design and engineering; technology transfer; as well as supporting the development of human resources and infrastructure for science and technology. Its Thai Science Park near Bangkok has national research and development centers in genetic engineering and biotechnology, metals and materials technology, electronics and computer technology, and nanotechnology.
During the Skoltech trip to Thailand this month, team members participated in the first-ever Thai-Russian Roundtable, making presentations on the institute’s approach to gifted education and research, as well as on cultivating digital skills.
The Skoltech visit also included a Royal Palace meeting with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who is a key supporter of Thai education and frontier research – including the country’s development of human resources in science and technology.
