The opening of the International Conference on Probability Theory and Mathematical Physics, ProbaФ, took place at Skoltech on Monday, June 24, beginning the first of a series of talks planned for the five-day event. The conference is organized by the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and its Center for Advanced Studies, with the participation of the Institute for Information Transmission Problems.

This year marks what would have been Roland Dobrushin’s 90th birthday (20.07.1929 – 12.11.1995) and the conference is to be a tribute to his memory. Dobrushin was an eminent Russian mathematician who contributed to probability theory, mathematical physics, and information theory and the Dobrushin Prize, established in his name, will be awarded at a ceremony on Wednesday, June 26.

The conference consists of 20 talks covering various topics related to the overarching theme, ranging from “Continuity of Lyapunov exponents for products of random matrices” and “Non-integrable dimer models,” to “The Riemann Hypothesis and statistical mechanics.” Among the participants and organizers are Andrei Okounkov (“Bethe Ansatz from the modern point of view”) and Yakov Sinai (Co-chair of the organizing committee).
