The 4th International School-Conference of young scientists, “Topical Problems of Modern Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Materials Science,” has finished successfully.
The conference, which is a partnership between Skoltech and Lomonosov Moscow State University, is a collaboration of 13 professors from Russia, France, USA, India, Germany and Belgium. It is taking place over the course of three days.
Donald Siegel, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering Associate Chair for Graduate Education, Mechanical Engineering, USA:
“I think the main benefit of the workshop is that it is an excellent learning opportunity for students. Of course, they can go to lectures with their regular coursework and listen to the instructors, but often it’s more beneficial for outsiders to come in – the ones you have here are really excellent and in the top of their field. It’s a rare opportunity to have such people assembled in one place like this and the presentations have been fantastic. When I was a student, I never had this opportunity and I wish I did. I think we’re going to learn quite a bit from having this and I’m happy to see that this is the fourth iteration. I’d be glad to participate in the future if my help is welcome.”

“I think the conference is a great idea, because it enables the teaching of electrochemistry to a wide range of students, it shows what is going on in the world by having different speakers, and gives the basics of what is needed in the future. As we saw, I think that through this kind of workshop students can learn the basics of electrochemistry dedicated to batteries and electrocatalysis, which are two different cases. I like talks like the one we just had now, which was very pedagogical; the person went through all the basic steps and didn’t try to show beautiful results, but instead gave information that students need in order to take care to have impactful and robust results when entering the field. I think this is very important nowadays.”
