On December 9-11, an Expert Committee from the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (Hcéres) made an on-site visit to Skoltech to prepare its provisional evaluation report on the Institute’s Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) PhD program.
During the visit, the expert committee comprising four members and a moderator (Pierre Sebban) interviewed the MSE program designers, student representatives, teaching and administrative staff from the various sites where the program is taught. They also met with the main partners working at the Institute (scientists, professionals, etc.) or partners who employ former students following graduation.
The Hcéres experts focused on four key areas to make their evaluation:
- Integration into the job market
- Positioning of the doctorate
- Supervision and training
- Organization and management
This follows an on-site visit last month by an Hcéres expert committee, which is now conducting a provisional evaluation report on the Computational and Data Science and Engineering (CDSE) PhD program. Skoltech’s Life Sciences PhD is already accredited for the next five years and achieving full accreditation for both the CDSE and MSE PhD programs would be an important step for the Institute’s international standing.
“For now, Skoltech’s aim is to achieve accreditation for all of its PhD programs. This visit is simply another step in this long process. Achieving full Hcéres accreditation will not only be beneficial for the PhD program in question in terms of attracting students from abroad, but for the Institute as a whole.” – Pierre Sebban, science advisor at Hcéres, Hcéres expert committee monitor.
