Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. The faculty is comprised of current researchers with international accreditation and achievements.

Final session of Planet Watch Program features Skoltech-led “Applied Space Systems” contest

This March, Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia, has welcomed 130 participants of Sirius-2021 Space Program, the concluding session of Planet Watch. The event is attended by school and university students and 43 renowned Russian experts in the field of space science.

The grand opening started with an online greeting by Head of Kabardino-Balkaria Kazbek Kokov.  “I am proud that this year Kabardino-Balkaria has been selected from among many deserving applicants to serve as the venue for this high-profile educational event. Symbolically, the Sirius-2021 Space Program marks the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s historic space mission. I am pleased to see here participants from across Russia who have successfully passed the competitive selection to form a strong, close-knit team,” Kokov said.

Addressing the participants, Head of the Planet Watch Project Office and leading engineer at the MSU Research Institute of Mechanics Anton Rogachev said that along with a wealth of unique educational and research opportunities, the students will get the chance to see how rich the potential of Russia is: “Elena Shmeleva came up with a brilliant idea to bring the Planet Watch project to the Russian regions. You are in for an exciting experience where you will team up to deal with real engineering challenges and struggle with both machines and yourselves. I am sure that you will make it!”

As part of the program, the Skoltech Space Center (SSC) in partnership with the “Education of the Future” technology company has organized the Applied Space Systems competition where the student teams design scientific and research experiments on 3U Cubesat platform and create the spacecraft prototypes using the IntroSat kit.

The best projects of the March session may be selected for the Swarm of Small Satellites program and the results of students’ projects will actually be tested in space environment.

“Skoltech actively supports the involvement of school students in space activities. We are very pleased to see former schoolchildren enter space programs at Russian universities  and are looking forward to working with them together in the future”, SSC Director Anton Ivanov comments.

Sirius-2021 Space Program organizers are: FASIE, the Talent and Success Foundation, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), Roscosmos State Corporation, and the NTI Science Clubs movement. The program partners include Lorette, ScanEx, VoltBro, Sputnix, “Education of the Future”, Laboratory for Geoinformational Forecasting of Hazardous Hydrometeorological Phenomena, HSE, Samara State Aerospace University named after Academician S.P. Korolev, and St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
