Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. The faculty is comprised of current researchers with international accreditation and achievements.

Power of light: biophotonics and nanotubes

In what way are space exploration and biophotonics alike? What technologies help create new drug delivery systems and what biophotonics methods are already used in clinical practice? Why do we need a transparent electrode and how to make it from carbon nanotubes?

At the lecture, Skoltech professors will answer all these questions. Dmitry Gorin will discuss clinical applications of biophotonics and key trends of modern photoacoustics. Yuriy Gladush will talk about current uses and prospects of carbon nanotubes.

And, most importantly, we will discuss Skoltech’s tuition-free MSc and PhD programs, admission and selection procedures, learning process, and opportunities for recent graduates.

Join the lecture to find out:

  • what is molecular imaging and how it is used in medicine,
  • how to make a laser generate femtosecond pulses and what nanotubes have to do with it,
  • how to use optical sensors for early diagnosis and assessment of treatment effectiveness,
  • what are some useful applications of the nanoemitter,
  • how to enroll in Skoltech’s tuition-free dedicated educational programs.

About the speakers

Dmitry Gorin, Doctor of Chemistry, is a professor at the Skoltech Center for Photonic Science and Engineering and head of the Skoltech Biophotonics Laboratory. He graduated from Saratov State University and did postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Germany). As a visiting scientist, Gorin collaborated with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) (USA), the Charité University Hospital (Germany), Queen Mary University of London (UK), Ankara University (Turkey), Ghent University (Belgium), Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russia), and Bilkent University (Turkey). Dmitry is an author of over 184 publications and 20 patents. Currently, he teaches two courses at Skoltech: Physics of Colloids and Interfaces and Biomedical Application of Photonics.

Yuriy Gladush, Candidate of Mathematical Sciences, is an assistant professor at the Skoltech Center for Photonic Science and Engineering and supervisor of the Center’s educational program. Yuriy graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His papers came out in Nanoletters, Carbon, ACS Photonics, and Nanoscale. Yuriy participated in and led applied research and industrial projects at the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, Huawei HIRP, and Skoltech STRIP. Currently, Yuriy engages in research focusing on the applications of carbon materials in photonics, generation of ultrashort pulses in fiber lasers, photodetectors based on nanomaterials, and methods for controlling non-linear response from nanomaterials.
