Skoltech, SSMU and NeuroNet to open NeuroNet Center in Tomsk

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), the Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) and the NeuroNet Industry Union will open a NeuroNet Center of Excellence in Tomsk. A letter of intent to this effect was signed in Tomsk on June 21 in the presence of the Deputy Governor for Science and Education of the Tomsk Region L.M. Ogorodova.

The NeuroNet Center will focus on developing new products and services based on NeuroNet technologies, spurring innovations in education and healthcare, conducting training programs and promoting ground-breaking research and engineering in NeuroNet’s technology domain and related fields among young people.

Creating centers of excellence in the Russian Federation subjects is among the key indicators of NeuroNet performance according to the National Technology Initiative (NTI) roadmap. One of the main tasks of the new NeuroNet Center is to connect the region’s research labs to businesses and create an environment conducive to the development of a competitive high technology market in Russia.

“The Center’s key goal is to implement the principles of translational medicine for the benefit of the NeuroNet market through joint research and integration of unique competencies of the Region’s leading research and clinical institutions and the real sector of the economy,” explained Ogorodova.

“SSMU which will serve as the base for the new Center has a complete infrastructure required for NeuroNet research and development. A unique team of our Neurology Department led by V.M. Alifirova has upwards of 300 publications on neurobiology and psychiatry in high-ranking journals. The newly created “Neurosciences in Medicine” strategic network academic unit has brought together all the research teams of the Tomsk region,” noted SSMU Rector O.S. Kobyakova.

“Tomsk is one of Russia’s key neurotechnology  centers. Having a NeuroNet Center of Excellence deployed in the region is highly important for the NeuroNet Industry Union. We hope this productive cooperation will continue,” said NeuroNet Executive Director A.V. Semenov welcoming the decision to create a new Center.

“Skoltech’s involvement in the Tomsk NeuroNet Center’s activities will help the Tomsk Region’s NeuroNet market players to collaborate more efficiently through the CoBrain Analytics platform – a Big Data handling system created by Skoltech within the framework of the NTI infrastructural project. This will also give an additional impetus to development activities and bolster the creation of new technologies based on human brain research results,” said CoBrain-Analytics Project Manager Dmitry Matsnev.
