Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. The faculty is comprised of current researchers with international accreditation and achievements.

Falling Walls Lab, Skoltech

Yesterday, Falling Walls Lab Moscow took place at Skoltech on Thursday, May 30, with 16 contestants presenting their ideas to a jury panel made up of 9 members. Each participant had 3 minutes to present their idea, which aim at making breakthroughs in science and society. The topics ranged from solving issues such as social isolation, power inefficiency and oilfield chemistry, to cancer energy metabolism, medicine inefficiency and many others.

Academic institutions around the world host their own respective Falling Walls Labs, the winner of each taking part in the Falling Walls Lab Grand Finale in Berlin on November 8. However, it is not just an opportunity to compete in Berlin; all finalists win a ticket to the Falling Walls Conference the day after the Grand Finale. Also, the three winners of the Berlin finale receive a cash prize and the opportunity to give their talk on the grand stage of the Falling Walls Conference in front of 600 institution leaders and decision makers.

The winners of Falling Walls Lab Moscow in order were:

  1. Daria Buklesheva from Lomonosov Moscow State University, presenting on “Breaking the Wall of Bioplastic Use in Target Drug Delivery”
  2. Andrey Churkin from Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, presenting on “Breaking the Wall of Energy Cooperation”
  3. Timur Sayfutdinov from National University of Science and Technology MISIS, presenting on “Breaking the Wall of Disability”

“First of all, I am very happy. I was also surprised, because they told me that I’d gotten second place and I thought “Okay, I’m going home.” Then they told us that both of us are going to Berlin, so I’m very happy to compete for Skoltech and for Moscow.” – Andrey Churkin

 The first and second place winners will compete in the Grand Finale in Berlin this November.
