Skoltech Provost Keith Stevenson attends meeting with PM Dmitry Medvedev at XXI Mendeleev Congress in St. Petersburg

With UNESCO declaring 2019 as the Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements, several events around the world have marked the 150-year anniversary of Dmitry Mendeleev’s great discovery, and highlight the impact that periodic law has had on science ever since. The XXI Mendeleev Congress is Russia’s biggest scientific conference on chemistry, drawing over 2000 participants.

On Monday, September 9, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev met with the world’s most distinguished scientists ‒ two Nobel laureates (Jean-Pierre Sauvage and William E. Moerner) and rectors from Russia’s leading institutions, including Skoltech Provost Keith Stevenson.

As part of this celebration, Provost Keith Stevenson and Professor Evgeny Antipov have organized a symposium ‒ “Elemental Materials for Electrochemical Energy.” The four-day symposium invites international experts in energy storage and conversion. Many of these top scientists will then present at the 4th International School-Conference of Young Scientists.

These events show Skoltech as a rising leader in materials science for energy.
