Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited Thailand to attend the 35th ASEAN summit (Association of South East Asian Nations), which took place from November 2-4. As part of the visit, Prime Minister Medvedev met with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. During the meeting, the Thai PM thanked the Russian PM for Russia’s role in bringing Thai students to study under the Sirindhorn Scholarship. Following this meeting one of Thailand’s major newspapers bared the following headline:

“PM Prayut thanks Russia for granting scholarships to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to select Thai students for academically prestigious master’s degrees in science.”

Skoltech is an active participant in the Sirindhorn Scholarship, a program that is supported by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand to allow for Thailand’s best students to study abroad. The scholarship includes a tuition waiver for a period of two years (which is the normal completion time for a master’s degree at Skoltech), a monthly stipend starting at 40,000 Russian Rubles (approx. 20,000 Thai Baht), ranging up to 55,000 Russian Rubles (27,000 Thai Baht) by the second year of the program, depending on the students’ academic performance. It also includes accommodation, travel insurance, and a reimbursement of travel expenses (economy class) between Thailand and Russia.

H.R.H. Princess Sirindhorn’s patronage gives the opportunity to three of the best Thai students every year to pursue their study for a master’s degree in Russia at Skoltech starting in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
