Skoltech Gymnasium: biology online

Skoltech continues to actively support Skolkovo International Gymnasium by delivering the scheduled lectures and workshops in the distance learning mode.

According to the schedule agreed on with the Gymnasium’s Department of Natural Sciences, online biology classes for 7th and 8th graders will continue until the end of the school year. The classes will focus on the curriculum topics, such as evolution of vertebrates, their orientation and movement in space, coloring, and masking strategies. Some classes will present the Kingdom Funghi, while 8th graders will learn more about human feelings.

A special course in microbiology will be offered to 9th graders taking advanced classes in biology. The students will discover invisible living things around us, learn what archaea, actinomycetes and myxomycetes are, find out whether and how antibiotics work, what species belong to algae and whether lichen can be grown in artificial environment. The lecturers will use a microscope for demos and have their students work on practical assignments.

Every Friday, Zoom will run ScienceLab-live, a training course where students can conduct experiments together with experts.

An online workshop on plant pigments, the subject of Nobel Prize winning research, will show how to obtain and use pigments at home. The workshop will take place on Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m.

School students, adults and anyone interested are welcome to ScienceLab-live.
