The Skoltech Computational and Data Science and Engineering (CDSE) and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) PhD programs have received full five-year accreditation in accordance with European Standards and Guidelines (ESG). The accreditation certificates were issued by Hcéres, a French educational evaluator with global recognition.
In November and December 2019, two teams of Hcéres experts visited Skoltech to make a 360-degree evaluation of the programs, assessing everything from their objectives and outcomes to human, digital and lab resources, students’ success, and job market outlook. The experts have now concluded that both programs deserve accreditation.
“This accreditation is a big honour for us. It is yet another confirmation that CDISE is one of the global powerhouses in artificial intelligence, with its potential recognized at the international level,” Сhair of the CDSE PhD program committee Professor Maxim Fedorov said.
“The Hcéres award is an important milestone for our Materials Science and Engineering Program. It should increase the visibility of Skoltech and make it more competitive in the contest for best undergraduate students in Russia and across the world,” Сhair of the MSE PhD program committee Professor Alexei Buchachenko noted. Professor Buchachenko also stressed that Hcéres pays as much attention to the essence of the evaluated programs as it does to formal indicators.
Earlier in March 2019, Hcéres gave full five-year accreditation to the Skoltech Life Sciences PhD program, a first in Russia. Thus, three out of seven Skoltech PhD programs now have official international recognition.
The High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (Hcéres) is an independent educational authority tasked with evaluation of higher education institutions and research bodies. Hcéres is a full member of ENQA (the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) and is included in the EQAR-Register (European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education).
