IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology.

IEEE sponsors more than 1,800 annual conferences and events worldwide, curating cutting-edge content for all of the technical fields of interest within IEEE. It is a community of over 420,000 technology and engineering professionals united by a common desire to continuously learn, interact, collaborate, and innovate. This community is not only for electrical engineers but involves various fields such as Engineering, Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communications, Education, Management, and Law and Policy.

Student Branches provide an opportunity for IEEE Student members to begin networking in their areas of interest and future profession. There are over 2,000 Student Branches in over 100 countries, globally.

Incorporating of Skoltech was made possible through the support of Prof. Fortin, Prof. Cichocki, Prof. Tsetserukou, Prof. Pozo, and 12 first student members of the Skoltech IEEE student branch who welcomed the initiative.

Prof. Tsetserukou: “I would like to thank PhD students, Ms. Behnoosh Meskoob and Mr. Andrey Pimenov for motivating me to accept the position of IEEE Student Branch Counselor. The Branch aims to promote the newest achievements in such fields as Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Power Engineering, Space, Robotics, Haptics, VR/AR, HCI, HRI, etc. I will do my best to let branch solidify the team of Skoltech students who are working on applied technologies. We will share the information on IEEE Conferences, International Summer Schools, Internships, and establish strong international cooperation. In the future, we are planning to make the Summer School on Emerging Technologies under IEEE umbrella. We are going to make the list of unique facilities in Skoltech (including my Lab.) the members can get the access. I would like that Skoltech students make more joint research in the emerging frontiers and interdisciplinary fields. In plans, there is organization of the website on the available R&D, Faculty, Startup positions in Russia. Having these proactive students, we will make the best IEEE Student Branch in Russia!”

Being a member of the IEEE student branch brings additional opportunities for students:

  • Opportunities to network on a local level
  • Develop projects and obtain sponsorship based on your IEEE affiliation
  • Receive support for hosting professional awareness programs
  • Connect with other like-minded student groups to advance the IEEE mission

“Join the Skoltech IEEE student branch, and help us shape this branch. Soon we are going to create various committees, plan for future events and we need highly active and innovative students to start our activities officially to become one of the most active student branches of Russia and later, in the world! If you have any questions or if you are already an IEEE member and want to join our branch, don’t hesitate to contact us”, said Behnoosh Meskoob, 2nd year Ph.D. student at Space center, and Andrey Pimenov, 2nd year Ph.D. student at CDMM.
