“The Forefront of Physics”, a new book published at the initiative of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in collaboration with the Ogonyok magazine, features 22 interviews by top Russian physicists previously published in the media. In the lead-up to Russian Science Day, the book is now available to broader audiences through major Russian book networks and will soon hit the shelves at international online bookstores.
The new book is for sale at Biblio-Globus and Chitay-Gorod and available for ordering at the largest Russian online bookstores and Paulsen publishers’ website. In addition, Skoltech and Paulsen plan to invite the contributing scholars to deliver a series of public lectures at major book fairs, exhibitions, and festivals in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Each lecture will be followed by a Q&A session where the reader who offers the best question will receive a signed copy of the book. Check out the topics, times and venues at The Forefront of Physics website.
“Society should be aware of what scientists are doing, and scientists should publicize their research to educate society,” one of the authors, Skoltech professor Ildar Gabitov, says, underscoring the importance of researchers’ involvement in science education initiatives.
The book has been published in Russian and English. The English version will soon be available on Amazon.com.
The project’s media partners include Troitsky Variant – Nauka, a newspaper featuring science news and articles, and SciTopus, a major aggregator of popular science videos in Russian.
The book features a video option to help the reader navigate the fascinating world of physics: just point your smartphone camera at the QR code to watch the video and be part of the conversation.
The project partners plan to present the new book at Skoltech on March 18. The presentation program and participation details will be posted on the project website shortly.
“The Forefront of Physics” continues a series of collaborative initiatives of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), Ogonyok, and Troitsky Variant – Nauka that started with the award-winning 2016/2017 project, “Mathematical Walks”. A culmination of the project, the Russian-English book “Mathematical Walks. A Collection of Interviews” compiled in collaboration with the A.A. Kharkevich institute for Information Transmission Problems of RAS was honored with the 2017 Prosvetitel Award in the Neformat category. The two books now form a two-volume edition under the shared title, “Mathematics and Physics: Two Perspectives, One World”.
