Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. Skoltech becomes the top infrastructure hub for RSF grant winners

The Russian Science Foundation (RSF) has named 149 winner projects of its infrastructure-based research competition, including 12 projects to be performed at Skoltech’s Shared Facilities.

The winners will use RSF grants to engage in research and technology projects in 2021-2024, benefiting from the existing world-class research infrastructure and dealing with specific tasks within the priority areas defined by the Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation. Using a large facility within the Russian research infrastructure was a key requirement for participation. Along with a 4-year grant of 4 to 6 million rubles per year, each project will be entitled to annual allocation of up to 1.2 million rubles for the infrastructure services.

Skoltech is a leader among the 28 participants in the number of winning projects:  out of its twelve projects, seven will be based at the Genomics Core Facility and five at the Advanced Imaging Core Facility.

Skoltech’s teams will work in collaboration with other research entities: eight out of the twelve RSF-supported projects will be led by MSU, MISIS, Kazan Federal University, the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry and the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of RAS, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, A.A. Kharkevich Institute for Information Transmission Problems of RAS, and the Center for Problems of Ecology and Forest Productivity of RAS.

Alexey Denisov, Director of Research Facilities Center that unites all Skoltech shared facilities: “This is the second time Skoltech participates in the infrastructure-based research competition. In 2019, our Genomics Core Facility won 8 project grants. This year, our action on a wider front has paid off: we have won the competition with 12 projects. Skoltech’s first Core Facility established in March 2018 was quickly followed by another five, and it is only the beginning. Also, many of our labs provide their equipment and related services on a shared-use basis, so it is safe to say that Skoltech has created and continues to develop a unique research infrastructure which, reinforced by CREIs’ scientific knowledge and expertise, will help address the biggest challenges in basic and exploratory research and deal with tasks posed by the technology sectors of the economy.”
