Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. The faculty is comprised of current researchers with international accreditation and achievements.

Skoltech to unveil a new collection of interviews with top Russian physicists

On March 18, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) will present its new book, “The Forefront of Physics. A Collection of Interviews”, in the format of a scientific discussion with the contributing scholars. The event will kick off a new series of presentations and open lectures by top Russian scientists starring in “The Forefront of Physics” media project to mark the Year of Science and Technology in Russia.

The discussion will focus on topics of utmost interest to a broad audience, such as “Current advances in physics that are shaping our future”, “Top investment targets in science and technology”, and “Technological advances enabling a scientific breakthrough”.

The event is open to all those looking for a “magic wand” to achieve a breakthrough in physics: the live stream of the event that will start at 6 p.m. (MSK) will be available at the Skoltech YouTube channel. You can register for the online discussion here.

Anyone present will be able to ask the scientists any question on their respective focus areas: Skoltech Professor Albert Nasibulin, nanomaterials and flexible electronics; Alexander Belavin, MIPT Professor and Principal Research Scientist at the L.D. Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics of RAS, multidimensional space; Valery Ryazanov, MIPT Professor and Head of Superconductivity Laboratory at ISSP RAS, quantum computing as a banking industry disruptor and the prospects of quantum communications; Lev Zelenyi, Science Advisor at the Space Research Institute of RAS and Full Member of RAS,toxic lunar dust in regolith samples and life on Venus; Skoltech Professor Vladimir Drachev, supersensitive sensors; Skoltech Assistant Professor Tatiana Podladchikova, solar events that can disable satellites, disrupt communications, and jam navigation signals; Yuri Kovalev, Head of Laboratories at LPI RAS and MIPT, neutrinos; Alexei Starobinsky, Principal Research Scientist at the L.D. Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics of RAS and Full Member of RAS, gravitational waves and relic gravitational radiation.

Authors of the best three questions will be honored with a signed copy of the book.

“It takes great skill to explain complicated scientific ideas using simple images and notions, which makes popularization of science a formidable challenge,” Alexander Kuleshov, Skoltech President and Member of RAS, says in the foreword.

Background

“The Forefront of Physics” is an international science education project that continues a series of collaborative initiatives of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), Ogonyok, and Troitsky Variant Nauka that started with the award-winning 2016/2017 project, “Mathematical Walks”. A culmination of the project, the Russian-English book “Mathematical Walks. A Collection of Interviews” compiled in collaboration with the A.A. Kharkevich institute for Information Transmission Problems of RAS was honored with the 2017 Prosvetitel Award in the Neformat category.

The two books now form a two-volume edition under the shared title, “Mathematics and Physics: Two Perspectives, One World”, released by Paulsen Publishers.
