Skoltech is an international graduate research-focused university that was founded by the group of world-renowned scientists in 2011. Skoltech's curriculum focuses on technology and innovation, offering Master's programs in 11 technological disciplines. Students receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, design their own research projects, participate in internships and gain entrepreneurial skills in English. The faculty is comprised of current researchers with international accreditation and achievements.

Sber among Skoltech’s major industry partners accepting the most interns on Industrial Immersion program

Last summer, 14 Skoltech students studying under the Data Science and Information Science and Technology programs chose companies within Sber’s ecosystem for their Industrial Immersion, an annual summer internship for MSc students.

Ekaterina Orlova, student:

“My project at Sber is about the optimal customer communications strategy. Over the course of Industrial Immersion, we managed to perform in-depth data analysis, propose several alternative solutions and discuss the product development outlook with the customer. Deep diving into the workflow and going through the main stages of model development was an exciting experience for me. I am very grateful to my mentor and colleagues for their assistance in solving non-trivial tasks.”

Mohammed Deifallah, a student from Egypt, speaks of Sber as a dream company that solves problems critical for end users:

My project during the Industrial Immersion is “Vehicle-Pedestrian Motion Prediction” to enhance Sber autonomous technologies with a state-of-the-art model. This model is supposed to help self-driving agents perceive their environment, and to predict the motion of surrounding objects (pedestrians, cyclists, cars, etc.) in the future. Till now, the model is trained and works on a mini-sample of the dataset which the original authors worked on. However, I’ll work in my thesis research on the model to use other datasets to strengthen the model knowledge, and may tweak the model architecture and hyperparameters to give more accurate results. My Industrial Immersion was a challenge because it’s conducted online due to COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was very efficient, managed and supervised by Prof. Gonzalo Ferrer from Mobile Robotics Lab. Sber is one of my dream companies because it’s one of the top-tier organizations in Russia, having several research labs, tackling various projects that have a direct impact on end-users. So, I definitely hope I can land a job in Sber.

Gabriel Rozzonelli, a French student, is also considering Sber as a potential employer:

This Industrial Immersion firstly got me more acquainted with the topic of motion prediction for unmanned vehicles. This is surely of prime importance for me, as I am eager to develop my competences in the robotics domain. Then, I could get my hands down on some more usual aspects in coding, software development, version control, but also develop my team work and time management skills. The company has attractive projects, so why not considering it for future job opportunities!

From year to year, Skoltech and Sber have been ramping up their collaboration efforts by launching joint projects and initiatives.

Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board at Sber:

“Sber is faced with several challenges that can only be dealt with in collaboration with scientific institutions. Our partnership with Skoltech is the most effective way to solve some of them. In our collaboration, we tackle various topics from artificial intelligence and robotics to climate change and use different formats, including joint laboratories, student internships, joint publications, and scientific workshops.”

Alexander Kuleshov, President of Skoltech:

“The first thing we say to our new students is that basic science is great, but it should be usable in real life. I am happy that Sber gives our students the opportunity to work on practical tasks and find the right solutions meeting Sber’s needs. An impressive talent pool of Skoltech students and alumni is already there for Sber to consider employing. Sberbank is our strategic partner, and we believe that our multi-faceted collaboration helps enhance Russia’s technological potential”.

Alexey Zaytsev, head of the Skoltech-Sber joint lab:

“One of the leading technology companies in Russia, Sber contributes to creating globally competitive products and improving the quality of life. Along with its effective performance in traditional banking, Sber is involved in the design of many new products within its ecosystem. Sber and Skoltech’s partnership embraces a broad range of areas and helps successfully deal with various data processing and machine learning tasks. As a natural continuation of collaboration, Sber takes on Skoltech students for Industrial Immersion and offers employment opportunities to Skoltech alumni. During their summer internship, Skoltech students learn about real business processes first-hand from a leading industrial company and try to solve challenging tasks, working in a team of top-notch professionals.”
