Skoltech Triple Point PITCH final showcases student entrepreneurs

Last week, our campus hosted the Skoltech Triple Point PITCH final – the first competition for student startups at Skoltech. Skoltech Triple Point is part of the Next Generation Program, in which Skoltechstudents, with the help of MIT and Skoltech professors and the Skoltech Student Startup Club team, are developing projects to support pioneering and strategic thinking, as well as a healthy sense of competition among students.

Fifteen teams took part in the final stage, and each of them got 90 seconds to present their project to a panel of judges consisting of faculty members and industry professionals. A jury panel included Prof. Keith Stevenson, Christina Chase, сo-founder & Managing Director, MIT Sports Lab, Skoltech alumni Fedor Antonov, CEO, founder at Anisoprint, and Konstantin Gnyp, Senior Associate at Runa Capital. The competition is supported and sponsored by Pekka A. Viljakainen, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Skolkovo Foundation.

Due to pandemics, the competition featured an online component and an in-person competition. Students developed video pitches and presented in-person, competing to earn seed money to launch and grow their innovations. The COVID-free event gathered 70 people offline, bringing the right vibes both for the audience and the competitors: the venue has become a brave place and a lucky stage for the following teams:

  • First place and 400 thousand rubles prize was awarded to the Nice Try team with an augmented reality project for virtual testing of cosmetics. They developed an application to project lipstick onto the user’s lips in real-time using AI.
  • Second place and 250 thousand rubles – to the 3D Dream team. Using a holographic system, the guys figured out how to get rid of old, bulky, and dangerous theatrical scenery and equipment. It will allow creating 3D projections for the audience that live, interact and move with the actors on stage.
  • Third place and 100 thousand rubles – to the EVAline team, who used technology to fight long-distance relationships. Their system combines bone conduction technology, model-free reinforcement learning (a.k.a. dynamical AI), and variational geometry to make people feel their partner as if they’re there.
  • DRAWF team won the audience support award – they had a fantastic project to replace manual measurements of the fluid parameters with an automatic continuous measurement device with remote data transmission, replenishing the database and raising awareness in the situation.
