Molecular biology and beyond

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center launch a series of lectures.

Skoltech Professor Mikhail Gelfand will deliver the first lecture, Molecular biology: the core of everything, on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 17:00.

Molecular biology studies a diversity of processes from storage and transmission of hereditary information to the structure and functions of various compounds. Despite the overwhelming amount of knowledge accumulated over the 70 years since the discovery of the DNA structure, the functioning of proteins and genes remains as relevant today as ever. Understanding the essential processes, such as translation, transcription and replication, opens the door to the fascinating world of scientific discovery.

In his lecture, Skoltech professor Mikhail Gelfand will present some basic concepts of molecular biology and explain how bioinformatics, molecular biology and evolution mix to form a “scientific cocktail”.

Mikhail Gelfand, Doctor of Science (Biology), is a bioinformatician and Skoltech vice-president for biomedical research.

OpenRAN Russia 2021

On Dec. 14, Skoltech and MTS will hold Russia’s first international conference “OpenRAN Russia 2021”, focusing on open architecture as the basis of mobile radio access networks. We welcome guests from across the world to attend the event.

The conference will feature speakers from the O-RAN Alliance and the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), the global alliances for the development and promotion of OpenRAN. In addition, there will be speakers from vendors and operators consolidated around the growing trend of open network architecture. Furthermore, the guests will have the opportunity to visit the OpenRAN 5G demo zone, which exhibits the capabilities of 5G and displays network hardware and software.
